Description

Recently, there is a horrendous survey shown that 40 percent of IC patients are unable to work, 27 percent are unable to have sex, 27 percent have had a marriage breakdown, 55 percent have contemplated suicide and 12 percent have attempted suicide. Some sufferers can’t stand such unbearable pain caused by the interstitial cystitis, which seemingly spoils patients’ happy life.

As is known to us, interstitial cystitis(IC) is a kind of specific chronic condition in women and men, a chronic disease of the bladder which is characterized by frequent urination, painful urination or pain in the bladder or pelvic area that does not go away, ranging from mild burning or discomfort to severe pain. What’s worse, some patients need to urinate as often as 60 times a day.

Currently, the exact causes of interstitial cystitis are still unclear. However, doctors usually believe that it is a real physical problem and not a result, symptom, or sign of an emotional problem. Because the symptoms of IC are varied, most researchers believe that it represents a spectrum of disorders rather than one single disease. It’s likely that many people with interstitial cystitis also have a defect in the protective lining (epithelium) of their bladder. A leak in the epithelium, for example, may allow toxic substances in urine to irritate your bladder wall.

In general, different patients are given different treatments according to their conditions. Many medicines are approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration to treat interstitial cystitis. Such as oral pentosan polysulfate, it can build and restore the protective coating on the bladder epithelium and it may also help to reduce inflammation. But it also has some side effects, like nausea, diarrhea and gastric distress. What’s more, dimethyl sulfoxide is also commonly used to treat interstitial cystitis. It can do some help in blocking inflammation and relieving pain The main side effect is a garlic-like odor that lasts for several hours after using dimethyl sulfoxide.

Thus, considering varities of side effects that many medicines have, doctors of traditional Chinese medicine suggest people to treat interstitial cystitis by herbal medicine. A new medicine called diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill is developed by Doctor Lee Xiaoping in Wuhan. Different from medicines mentioned above, this medicine is made of herbs, which can remove inflammation and eliminate toxins in our body so as to release unbearable pain when urinating caused by interstitial cystitis.  At the same time, it helps to promote blood circulation thereby succeeding in alleviating the pain without any side effect. Now, this medicine has become a worth try for interstitial cystitis patients.
